Almost forty-three years ago now, I experienced what was overwhelmingly one of the most blessed days of my life. That was the day my son was born.
My pregnancy was filled with serious problems, the causes of which were unknown. By four months, I was confined to total bedrest, but the problems persisted. From time to time, I would be hospitalized until my regular obstetrician would no longer treat me. I was then referred to a high-risk obstetrician, who closely followed my case.
This doctor had such a calm and reassuring manner. When other doctors wanted to deliver the baby early, he calmly and compassionately would assure me that it was better for my baby to remain in the womb than to be delivered. He continually reassured me that within the womb was absolutely the best place my son could be. Then a day came at thirty-six weeks when my tests, which my doctor followed so closely, determined it was better for my baby to be delivered.
I had a very long labor, and more difficulties ensued. It was determined that I would be unable to deliver my baby. The next step required a C-section through which my beautiful baby boy was born.
But within moments, he was whisked away to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. His little lungs were not developed enough for him to breathe on his own.
Long days and nights followed. Little by little, he improved until the day I was able to bring my little one home. What a precious miracle he was! God had formed him so perfectly, right within my womb!
Since that experience, along with many truths I have come to understand through the years, I see a great travesty and tragedy in our culture today. We have lost the truth that a mother’s womb is a unique and marvelous creation designed by God Himself. Although we know it takes both a father and mother to begin a new life, it was within the mother’s womb where God designed that life was to be formed. The womb was designed to be a place of safety and protection. The womb was designed to furnish perfect nourishment for the baby’s development. And by God’s design that baby would remain in that place of safety, protection, and nourishment until its birth. And even after birth, the mother continues to provide perfect nurture and nourishment to sustain its life as the baby feeds at the mother’s breast. What a glorious design of Creator God!
Then, we take our eyes off the heavenly design and look at the world around us. The news is filled with reports of both men and women clamoring and demanding the right to end a pregnancy at their choosing. Sometimes with “medical equipment” the mother’s womb is invaded, and the developing baby is pulled or suctioned piece by piece to its death. At other times “medication” is taken by the mother to cause her womb to expel the developing child to its untimely death.
What a travesty! The mother’s womb … designed to be a place of safety and protection becomes a place of destruction!
What a tragedy! The mother’s womb … designed to be a place of life becomes a place of death!
And the beauty of God’s creation is marred in the most horrific way imaginable!
In love, I must say, I hear all of the difficult and sometimes horrible circumstances that are often cast forward as arguments. And I understand that each situation is unique. But in every situation, God is there for those who turn to Him. He is there with love and forgiveness for the past to those who ask Him. And He is there with love and guidance for the future to those who seek Him . Even in the most difficult of circumstances, there is a God. May we turn to Him in our time of need!
I pray that all who know the truth will …
live the truth,
speak the truth,
and help others understand the truth.
All for His glory!
And the saving of the most innocent and precious lives!
Psalm 139:13-14
For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
