Timeless Truth

The year is 2021.  The eyes of many look forward to the new year with hopes of new things. The ears of most hear the words far too frequently of the “new normal”.  People search for new adventures, new horizons, new opportunities, new relationships, and even new truth.

However, in reality, the deepest longing of the human heart is not for new things at all. Without question, the great need that every human has is as old as Creation itself. It is the need to know the Creator, the One who created and ordained all things, the One who explains why the world is as it is today, and the One who sent the Savior (Jesus Christ) that we may indeed be restored and come to know our Creator … Almighty God.

It is not new truth that we need. I sat at dinner recently with a fellow believer who expressed some frustration at how often she hears the phrases “my truth” and “your truth”.  She was right. Those phrases are in error. There is only one truth, and it is God’s truth. And the beautiful thing about His truth is that it is a timeless truth.  It is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

So, I return to my beginning statement. The year is 2021. How shall I live my life in this new year?  For me, it is to live in those “old” and timeless truths found in the Scriptures.

For example, as a believer, what kind of heart should I exhibit? Let us look into those “old” and timeless truths. The scriptures that come to mind are Colossians 3:12-13:

So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you do.

Even in the chaos and confusion that 2021 could bring, this timeless truth does not change. The Father wants His children to live for His glory and reflect Him.

And, as another example, I must ask: What has the Lord called me to do in this upcoming year? Again, I will look to that “old” and timeless truth. The calling has not changed.

Because I am a married woman, I am to be a biblical wife to my husband. Though the world of 2021 will scream otherwise, the truth of God calls me to be a help and companion to my husband, to respectfully submit to him, and to love him and do good to him all the days of my life. Those are the  timeless truths of Scripture.

The Scripture is so full. And it is all timeless truth.  I could go on and on. How do I deal with my children? Timeless truth can be found in the Scriptures. How do I treat others? That truth, too, is found in Scripture. What about the difficult people in my life? Oh yes, that is answered in Scripture. And on … and on … and on go the questions and their timeless answers.

The year is 2021. Truth has not changed. Our God has not changed.

May we bow our hearts before Him, and then walk in His timeless truth.

All for His glory in 2021!

  1. One of the precious verses that came to mind reading this;

    I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20

    May your new year be blessed.
