DAY 30
A.M. Reading: Genesis 28
Genesis Questions Worth Pondering:
We saw that Jacob left his family to protect his life from Esau and to find a wife of his people.
What did Esau then do? Why?
Recall the blessing that Isaac gave Jacob as he left to go to Padan Aram.
Describe Jacob’s dream.
What did God say to him?
A “think” question: Compare the covenant that God made with Abraham, and then with Isaac, and now with Jacob. What were the things that God said to all three? (Hint: Look for what God said about land, seed, and blessing.)
What did Jacob say when he woke up?
What did he then do?
A “think” question: How can we see that it is God who chose the line in which Christ would be born and was not based upon any goodness in man?
P.M. Reading: John 15:12-27
John Questions Worth Pondering:
In verse 12, Jesus once again gives His commandment.
What is His commandment?
In what manner were they to do this?
What is the greatest demonstration of love?
In what manner did Jesus lay down His life for His friends?
Also, recall that His life was never about Himself. He laid His life down. He only did what the Father (the One who sent Him) commanded Him to do.
What determines who His friends are?
We know that Jesus laid down His life in death, but what else did He do for His friends – what did He make known to them?
A “think” question: If we lay down our lives for our friends, what would we make known to them? How would this be loving them, as Jesus loved us?
Did the disciples choose Jesus? Who chose them?
What were they appointed to do?
More “think” questions: How are “going” and “bearing fruit” and “asking” related to laying down your life for others? How are “going” and “bearing fruit” and “asking” related to loving one another as Jesus loved us?
Did all receive Jesus?
Who does the world hate? v.18, v.19, v.23
What Scripture was being fulfilled?
If someone hears Jesus’ words, how will they receive the one who speaks His words?
What do we learn here about the Holy Spirit?
Add to your list about the Holy Spirit.
A “think” question: How does the Helper (the Holy Spirit) help the believer carry out these commands that Jesus gave?
So much truth! But remember, Jesus is preparing His disciples in how to walk after His departure.
May the Word of Christ dwell richly within!
